Our story

A clean slate. A fresh start. That’s what moving should be all about. Leaving the past, with all the good and bad memories, learning experiences and regrets behind. Instead looking forward, to a new opportunity for growth and development. The last thing you want is to have that new beginning tainted. Today, rental deposits have that effect on many movers and can be anything from a headache to a financially detrimental component. Removing the deposit isn’t an option, as the landlord would be left unprotected against nonpayments and property damage. To add to it all, the cumulative amount of these deposits make up billions in capital that’s simply left to collect dust in a bank account.

This is the problem we at Ebie saw. We quickly realized that the answer to this problem wasn’t to adapt the deposit, as its design makes it very resistant to improvement. The answer is to replace it altogether, with a solution that has always made sense.

By re-thinking current renting practices, our solution contributes to targets 8.1, 8.2 and 11.6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  1. 8.1 Facilitiating economic growth and entrepreneurship

    We offer an affordable and convenient alternative to rental deposits, lowering the threshold to desired locations for small enterprises and start-ups that lack the financial muscles to pay large deposits.

  2. 8.2 Allocating capital more efficiently

    Billions are locked up in cash deposits and bank guarantees, gathering dust. By giving landlords the same protection in a more capital-efficient way, we unlock cash that can give back to society through increased investments and innovation.

  3. 11.6 Reducing market friction

    By lowering the barriers to the rental market – thereby increasing the tenant demand – we minimize market friction from unnecessary property vacancies. Through reduced vacancies we contribute towards “zero waste” cities.

Ebie is a trademark that Rentfair AB owns and operates under. Rentfair is registered at Bolagsverket as an insurance distributor to Gar-Bo, on which account Rentfair operates. Rentfair has through agreements taken upon itself to, without exception, distribute deposit insurance (also known as rental guarantee insurance), which is damage insurance in insurance class 14, for Gar-Bo's account.
